How do you describe to someone the finest, whitest, purest sand that feels like powder through your toes? How do you conjure up an image of the most exquisite bay, coated in flawless water and umpteen shades of pale blue?

Whitehaven Beach is known all over the world for its unwavering beauty. Float dreamily over seven kilometres of silica sand beach, swim with the fish, lie in the diamond-studded sunshine and watch the boats bob cheerfully at anchor. A seamless blue sky stretches above you and you are totally seduced by the beach’s beauty.

Whitehaven can be experienced in several ways. Ferries and luxury cruising yachts depart from Airlie Beach daily. A variety of sailing companies also offer multi-day charters that include a memorable visit to Whitehaven Beach in addition to stops to the outer Great Barrier Reef. Seaplanes and helicopters also visit the area offering stunning views from the sky.

Getting there:

Tours to Whitehaven Beach can be taken from Airlie Beach or several of the Whitsunday islands. Airlie Beach is located 1115km north of Brisbane and accessed by air, rail and road.

I have been to most of the beaches on the Barrier Reef Islands, most of the beaches from cooktown to the border, several in NSW, Victoria, South Aust. a couple in Tassie and Western Aust. None of them are as beautiful and in pristine condition like Whitehaven.

The most beautiful purest white sand beach with the clearest, most beautiful blue water and an abundance of pretty fish to snorkle with! Highly recommended.

Beautiful white beach that stretches for miles. Squeaky white sand, crystal clear waters in a protected spot ... just stunning.

I have fond memories of this beautiful beach and catching a helicopter there for my sisters wedding ceremony allowed us to see how truely breathtaking it was from the air before being able to experience it between our toes. It was just spectacular.

Abit over-rated as quite a few beaches in the Whitsundays are like this. Supposed to have good snorkelling but water was to cloudy to test this. Yes, it does have squeeky white sand and the water is deliciosly clear and blue!

I can say, without reservation or hesitation, that is is THE most beautiful beach I have ever seen. You have to see it to believe it, photos will never do it justice. A once in a lifetime experience. GO!

So far - Whitehaven Beach has been the best beach in the world I've visited. It truly has to be experienced at least once.
