Have you ever stood on the deck of a boat and looked down into the eye of a whale, as it rolls its magnificent body sideways to get a better view of you? Have you ever been so close to see the barnacles and battle scars glistening in the sunlight on its smooth dark skin and tuned into the sound of a whale song?
Hervey Bay provides the perfect calm conditions for whale watching, and each year from July to November humpback whale encounters can be guaranteed in these protective waters.
Onboard a whale watching vessel you will learn more about these gentle giants while steaming into deeper water to meet them.
A mother and calf blow in the distance, excitement builds, and what follows is an awesome display of tail and pec-slapping echoing across the ocean. Suddenly a massive whale breaches and lurches the body weight of 11 elephants out of the water, crashing back down again in a breathtaking acrobatic display.
It’s a powerful thing.
Getting there:

Awesome and humbling experience. The most evocative memory of our first trip to Australia. Nothing compares to the thrill of the your encounter of these huge, intelligent, friendly, inquisitive animals that seem to enjoy frolicking around the boats in Hervey Bay.
