Great place to visit and it's nice that not all attractions in Queensland are related to its coastline!!! Kid friendly!

The soft sounds of the outback echo around the quiet billabong as a fine mist rises from the water. A ghostly apparition appears. It’s the swagman from Waltzing Matilda fame, telling his story of the song that was sung about him, the song that has become Australia’s unofficial national anthem. The Billabong Courtyard transforms into a wonderful sound and light show as the fascinating story is told.
The Waltzing Matilda Centre in Winton is a tribute to the song, penned by Australian bush poet AB (Banjo) Paterson just outside Winton on Dagworth Station in 1895.
Also incorporating the Outback Regional Art Gallery, Qantilda Museum and Home of the Legend, the entire area has been transformed into an intriguing timeline and tribute to the life of a swaggie.
Before you leave enjoy a meal in the Coolibah Country Kitchen restaurant overlooking the billabong and take home a souvenir from the Station Store.

History comes alive and new meanings are found to life in the past.

This is a great experience for adults and children alike. Take an hour or so trip down to Barcaldine as it is a great little town, the birth place of the Alp Party.

A good place to visit. Combine this with a trip to the Stockman's Hall of Fame and The Qantas Museum for a great holiday.

The Walzing Matilda centre is a must-do for sure. It is well worth the trip. The heritage of our state and the birth place of our national song.

We spent a most enjoyable half day here - very interesting - put it on your list.

Connects us with our history and the spirit of this land. A must for every aussie especially the children.

Once again the country proves the best attractions are away from the coast. Great place to visit

Armed with a load of RACQ maps I headed off out back and fell in love with much along the way but the Waltzing Matilda Centre in Winton empassioned me enough to vote for it on this site. It's a joy. So is outback Queensland. Hey, so is Queensland full stop!
