Underwater World, Mooloolaba

Get there by train Get there by road Accommodation

You are underwater and a threatening smile heads your way. It’s a smile full of intimidating teeth that gleam like frozen icicles. The grey nurse shark swims slowly, painfully, above your head, dragging his tail across your face.

Ok - not all of you may want to dive with the sharks at Underwater World at Mooloolaba but if you’re into a bit of adventure, it’s a great place to start.

For a pro-active approach out of the water, the children will love to plunge their hands into a touch tank complete with sea urchins and starfish, and they don’t miss out either on close-up encounters with sharks, rays and gropers. An 80metre transparent tunnel walks you through what feels like the bottom of the ocean. Stand in awe as huge rays lie on the glass above your head, sharks glide in from the deep and colourful schools of fish swim above the corals and all around you.

Throughout your day at Underwater World there are stingray feeds, otter presentations, crocodile talks and many other entertaining shows. And if you still can’t be talked into letting a shark run his fin over your face, maybe you’d like to be kissed by a seal.

Getting there:

Mooloolaba is 100km north of Brisbane and easily accessed by road, rail and air.

I love that this attraction is so close to home, the kids can dip their hands in the rock pools, see some funny shows, and get to learn about all types of sea animals. Loved the dinosaur exhibition at the end of the adventure too!

I went to Underwater World at the end of last year - Had an amazing day full of under the sea action - i even got to get up close and personal with their 3 boy Asian Small Claw Otters! Malcom the Handler was a very knowledgeable keeper. 10 out of 10 for Underwater world.
