Many people wish the walls of the old Breakfast Creek Hotel could talk. Built in beautiful French Renaissance style in 1889, over the years it has been a famous drinking place for wharfies, businessmen, lawyers, journalists, Labor Party identities and the likes. Imagine the stories those walls could tell.
But maybe someone is trying to tell us something. William MacNaughton Galloway, the man responsible for the building and immediate success of the hotel, lost his life here. Falling to his death from the second floor window, staff say they see his ghost and hear him regularly in the original parts of the building.
Arguably the most famous watering hole in Queensland, The Breakfast Creek Hotel is still going strong. You can continue to choose your own steak from the cabinet to be char grilled in front of you, just as you could in the 1960s. It is also one of the few pubs in Australia to still serve beer "off the wood", rather than from the more modern stainless steel system.
The Brekky Creek has certainly had a facelift but successful blending of the old with the new has ensured it’s still an iconic place to visit.
Just don’t disturb the ghost.

The Brekky Creek has always been a great destination for a truly Australian meal. And the recent renovations have turned the place into a modern, happening venue for all ages. Let's hope the steak, potato and coleslaw combo last forever.

Looks like I'll have to add this to my list of places to experience.
