Take a trip to Fraser Island

Get there by train Get there by road Accommodation

Wind down your window and throw away your normal city roads and suburban worries. Fraser Island will teach you all about wide open pristine spaces, unspoilt beauty, lush rainforests, stunning freshwater lakes and the exhilaration of driving on sand, not monotonous bitumen.

The world’s largest sand island is a haven for adventure. Explore in your own 4WD or take a tour bus or even a H3 Hummer. Tackle the inland bumps and humps through towering satinay trees, abundant forest and picturesque sand dunes. Enjoy an invigorating swim in the emerald waters of Lake Wabby where Hammerstone Sandblow forms a wall of sand at its base. Lake Mackenzie shines sapphire blue, blessed with shores of snow-white sand.

On the quiet side of the island, blend seamlessly with nature at the award winning eco resort, Kingfisher Bay Resort and village. They offer a range of accommodation, restaurants, tours and activities. On the eastern side of the island, 4WD enthusiasts, fishermen and families enjoy campsites with rolling surf views and endless kilometres of sand highway.

Shipwrecks and sheltered bays flash by your window but be sure to stop and enjoy the view. Climb Indian Head and gaze down upon schools of fish, sharks, dolphins, rays and turtles, enjoying their own sea safari. They are probably having just as much fun as you.

I first came here when i was 10 with my parents. 17 years later and my eyes still lit up like a 10 year old and a smile from ear to ear

Selfishly we kept Fraser Island to ourselves for as long as we could....she has it all....rolling surf and azure bays.. tall forests and arid deserts....perch lakes and running creeks...eco lodges and camping grounds all surrounded by miles and miles of white sandy beaches...no wonder we love her....

Excellent 4wd tracks, great resort in kingfisher bay and some of the most blue water you have ever seen. Watch out for sharks though.

Did a 'Cool Dingo' tour (3 days / 2 nights) on Fraser for News Years. Had the time of my life! Great company, fantastic scenery, excellent food, and a whole lot of fun.

Fraser is fantastic! We love the fact that it is undeveloped and totally natural and clean. We hope it stays that way forever. Can't wait to return.

Who could not fail to be enthralled by the magic and beauty of this, the world's largest sand island. For nature, for fishing, for sight-seeing, for fun . . . this is the experience of a lifetime. You'll see goannas, dingoes, various small mammals and snakes as you wander through the scenic, arboreal diversity of this very special place.

One of the most amazing Queensland experiences I have had. Crystal clear fresh water, amazing beaches and remoteness from the rest of the world.... what more could you possibly want!
