Take a scenic Flight over Heart Reef

Get there by train Get there by road Accommodation

Take to the skies over the Great Barrier Reef, in a helicopter or seaplane, to understand the full magnitude of the 74 Whitsunday islands’ breathtaking beauty.

Skilled pilots soar over coral-studded ocean beds and island sanctuaries on a trip of a lifetime, as you take in the full view of untouched corners of the reef. You are already breathless from the thrill of the flight when your pilot bows low to one side pointing out a coral formation within Hardy Reef. It looks unfamiliar upside-down, but with a quick 180 degree turn of your flying machine, a perfectly formed heart-shaped reef stands out beautifully against a sapphire blue backdrop.

It seems Mother Nature knew exactly what she was doing when she formed the Whitsunday coral islands and magnificent Great Barrier Reef.

Getting there:

Seaplanes and helicopters can collect you from Airlie Beach, along the coast or from an island for scenic flights over the reef. Airlie Beach is located 1115km north of Brisbane.

By train:

Catch The Sunlander or Tilt Train to Prosperpine Station. Catch a connecting coach to Airlie Beach. Scenic flights of Heart Reef depart from Airlie Beach. To book your rail adventure call Traveltrain Holidays on 1800 627 655.

For many years I was an airhostess betwwen Brisbane and Cairns. We often flew over the reef, something a lot of visitors miss and should not, because it does not the promotion.

The reef is a must do for anyone. Going to Heart Reef and swimming with the fish in safety is what Reef World gives.

My fiance and I took a trip to Hamilton Island and included a flight over the reef and to Whitehaven beach and I must say it is worth the money. Yes it costs a bit but there is no better view of the reef and you can't begin to believe how beautiful it is until you see it from the sky. Heart reef is amazing, and it is the icing on the top of the wonderful reef. All Australians must see our reef and see how lucky we are to have this wonder.
