Spring Bluff Railway Station

Get there by train Get there by road Accommodation

In a pretty hillside setting, clinging to the edge of the Great Dividing Range near Toowoomba, one of Australia’s most historic railway stations still blossoms with life.

Trains might not stop here anymore on the main railway line from Ipswich to Toowoomba, but tourists surely do.

Call in to see the beautiful gardens and heritage-listed railway, history stemming back some 130 years. Way back in 1914 Queensland Railways had a garden competition to encourage railway staff to beautify the stations. The then stationmaster and his wife developed a magnificent garden that is still maintained and enjoyed today.

Pack a picnic lunch and sit amongst the landscaped beauty and even come by steam train during Toowoomba’s Carnival of Flowers in September when excursions are run to Spring Bluff.

Getting there:

Spring Bluff is located 140km west of Brisbane and just 14km from Toowoomba.

By train:

Catch The Westlander to Ipswich or Toowoomba. Spring Bluff is located about 1.5 hours drive from each of these locations. To book your rail adventure call Traveltrain Holidays on 1800 627 655.

Congratulions to all the workers who keep Spring Bluff Station beautiful. Wouldn't it be wonderful if as many railway stations as possible were as picturesque as Spring Bluff.

This stop is a trip back in time. I went there during The Carnival of Flowers and relaxed to the sounds of swing and jazz.

A very pretty spot especially in springtime, off the main road, and far from the maddening crowds
