Skyrail, Cairns

Get there by train Get there by road Accommodation

Imagine gliding silently through the heart of an untouched ancient rainforest and moving softly over its canopy. Outside your bubble a thundering waterfall tumbles on its journey through deep chasms and granite walls and the landscape glistens with a thousand shades of green.

The Skyrail Rainforest Cableway enables us to travel harmlessly through some of the most pristine areas of World Heritage rainforest on a 7.5km cableway spanning from Caravonica Station to Kuranda. Descend into Red Peak Station and Barron Falls Station to explore the forest floor on a series of boardwalks and edge your way to the rim of the Barron Gorge for breathtaking views of the gorge and falls.

There are several tour options to choose from - a popular choice is to take the Skyrail from Caravonica to Kuranda, returning by the Kuranda scenic railway. The Skyrail Rainforest Cableway can also be taken on a one-way journey in either direction or as a return trip.

Getting there:

Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, Corner Captain Cook Highway and Cairns Western Arterial Road. Cairns is easily accessed by road, rail and air.

The skyrail was a unique experience. It is amazing to be sitting so far above the ground and taking in the sights. The scenery is magnificent. It is the perfect way to spend some time in Cairns and surrounding area, especially when the Barron River is in full flight!

This is a must do ~ even if you have a fear of heights as I do. The fear factor was balanced out by the beauty of the scenery. Loved it and I'm a local

Going to Kuranda on the skyrail was a wonderful way to see the rainforest without impacting on the delicate balance of nature and human.
