Riverfire
On the banks of the Brisbane River and surrounds, hundreds of thousands of people gather in excited anticipation. It is probably the city’s most colourful and spectacular annual party, the QBE Riverfire, a stunning choreographed fireworks display that explodes into the night skies with a kaleidoscope of colours.
After such a visually splendid show your heart is still set to race as the gravity-defying RAAF F1-11 Roulettes sweep low over the city to perform an exhilarating ‘dump and burn’.
South Bank provides a safe and popular venue for families to enjoy this exciting free outdoor entertainment. Kangaroo Point Cliffs, Victoria Bridge, Riverside Centre, Eagle Street Pier, Captain Burke Park and Wilson’s Lookout also offer good alternative vantage points. QBE Riverfire is part of Brisbane Festival, a three week international arts festival. Brisbane Festival 2009 will be one of the most exciting years in Brisbane Festival's history as it will combine with the former annual Riverfestival and coincide with celebrations to mark the sesquicentenary of Queensland's foundation.
Getting there:
Choose a good vantage point at South Bank or along the Brisbane River.
By train:

This is quite possibly the best night of the Brisbane year. The buzz whilst waiting for the arrival of the F1-11`s is magic!

My favourite part is the fly-over, I swear I can feel the heat from the dump-n-burn from South Bank.

Terrific! Each year some friends rent an apartment and we sit back relax & enjoy fireworks right in front of us. Dont have to battle crowds or wait to get home after.

A great night, the music on Triple M really sets it off. And the build up with those funny guys from the Triple M breakfast show really build the anticipation

Riverfire is an amazing event - definitely a must-do in Qld!! It's a great day out at Southbank, topped off with a picnic on the banks of the river with your family, with your radio tuned to Triple M while the sky lights up, choreographed to an awesome soundtrack. Reminds you just how great it is to be in Brissie ;)
