Get there by train Get there by road Accommodation

It’s the world’s largest coral reef aquarium and home to 130 species of coral, 120 species of fish and many hundred sea stars, sea urchins, sea cucumbers, worm sponges and countless other coral reef creatures.

Stand centimetres away from reef sharks whizzing past your nose, look into the mouth of a stingray, or the eyes of a turtle, as you wander through the 20metre long acrylic walk-through tunnel that acts as a window to the reef.

Blacktip reef sharks, leopard and nurse sharks swim through the eerie backdrop of the wreck of the S.S. Yongala, surrounded by rainbow coloured Maori Wrasse and schools of colourful fish. Admire the hard and soft corals providing homes for fish and giant clams.

Learn more about the reef throughout the day with activities such as dangerous creature tours, shark feeding, turtle tours and predator dive shows.

Getting there:

2-68 Flinders St, Townsville. Townsville is accessible by road, air and rail.

such a great place to be able to visit all year with our annual membership - definitely a 'must have' for all parents of kids under about 12 (my 3yo loves it!)

As Reef HQ members with a 3 year old son, it's an ever-changing but constant attraction on our weekly schedule. A wonderful attraction for locals and visitors alike.

What a fantastic experience. As a teacher taking a group of 11 year old children, it was great to see them awe inspired for hours. An amazing attraction.

I visited the aquarium a number of years ago now but thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Being so close to the reef certainly allows you to appreciate the aquatic life in context.

Fantastic day out for the whole family - lots of interesting marine life to see & it is fully airconditioned which is a great way to escape the heat in summer. Lots for everyone to do.

Marvellous attraction for both the young and old alike, I have been many times and learn something knew every time. Fantastic place to educate people about our sea creatures and a definite for international travels who are not able to dive as they see it all in comfort.
