The Forester would be at home in one of it's many elements at this destination .

Outback at Isa is a tourist destination in itself and any visit to Mt Isa should start here. It is the area’s visitor information centre, also housing an interactive multimedia gallery, outback park and Riversleigh Fossil Centre. Here you can join the resident palaeontologist on a lab tour, surrounded by skulls, teeth and bones as he captivates you with stories of exciting nearby finds.
It is also home to The Hard Times Mine, a replicated underground mining experience built and operated by real miners. Throw on your bright orange overalls, gumboots, headlamp and hardhat and descend 22metres underground. Here you will be given the opportunity to work some mining machinery and feel the earth move beneath your feet, with the firing of the drill face. It is a rare chance to experience first hand the daily workings of an underground mine.
Getting there:
Outback at Isa is located at 19 Marian St, Mount Isa.

Definitely a different part of Qld but also an important and interesting part of our history. Worth a visit.

OUTBACK AT ISA, 19 Marian St Mt Isa, 07-47491555 by Gail Bell-Booth, 2024 Gympie Rd Bald Hills Qld 4036, Ph. 07-32615103 After viewing the above historical display, I took a Mt Isa mine tour. It was "exhiliaratingly" BLACK with real dangers if you didn't keep up. Surrounded by "stark" blackness you expect, any minute, to meet a demon from Dante's "Hell". Only a miniature of the real mine, but you certainly came away with an excellent understanding of how one works. Thanks to the ex- miner's excellent guiding knowledge, not one minute was boring. They deserve their wages!

I worked in the Isa in the late 70's early 80's and loved my time there. I have been back with my family and the city has changed but the Hard Times Mine is a MUST SEE for anyone who wants to know about life in Qld

It's many years since I have been to Mt Isa, but the Underground Mine Tour was an amazing experience.

A definite Must Do.The landscape around the area of Mt Isa and Cloncurry is well worth a trip.At least a minimum of a week stay to relish the scenery. The lights of the mines at night are spectacular !
