Majestic at Pomona

Get there by train Get there by road Accommodation

Constructed in 1921, the Majestic Theatre (or the Majestic Hall as it was known at the time) started out catering for film dances, concerts, stage plays, boxing matches and countless other community functions.

Back then the travelling picture show man called at regular intervals to show silent films and now after an extensive refurbishment that has brought the theatre back to its original glory, there is the resurrection of a genuine silent movie theatre, Australia’s only silent theatre.

Every Thursday evening a regular dinner and silent screening entertains the public and the Majestic Theatre continues to be at the heart of Pomona’s community life.

Getting there:

The Majestic Theatre, 3 Factory Street, Pomona. Pomona is 135kms north of Brisbane and easily accessed by road.

By train:

Catch The Sunlander, Tilt Train or Spirit of the Outback to Cooroy Station. Pomona is located approximately 15 minutes from Cooroy Station. To book your rail adventure call Traveltrain Holidays on 1800 627 655.

Further information:

Regular silent screenings are on a Thursday evening, see monthly program for further events evenings

Haven't seen "Son of the Sheik" with Rudolf Valentino? You haven't lived! The Majestic is the only place to go to see this: cinema organ, the works. The icing on the cake is that Pomona is a lovely town to visit anyway, nestling as it does in the Noosa Hinterland, and a night at the Majestic is pure delight!

Sitting and watching the show can sometimes make you realise the fun and excitement that people have always had throughout time. Just in a different way!

Great to see this old building being lovingly restored and used in the way it was intended. If at all interested in local history or cinema, this silent movie house theatre is a must-see destination.

This is definetly a "must do" for any Queenslander. Our theatre is unique in its running of the silent movies. Now it has been refurbished it can hold a lot of different types of performances. Come and see our silent movies. Come to the Fork and Film night it is great value. See you there.

Take a step back in time to the days of yesteryear where going to the cinema was an event. Organ playing, silent movies, drama and escapism from humdrum life. Welcoming and enjoyable!!

Wow, I haven't been to the Majestic in over 30 years. It's great to know that it's still there and operating. Will make it a 'must do' the next time we're in the Pomona area.
