Majestic at Pomona

Get there by train Get there by road Accommodation

Constructed in 1921, the Majestic Theatre (or the Majestic Hall as it was known at the time) started out catering for film dances, concerts, stage plays, boxing matches and countless other community functions.

Back then the travelling picture show man called at regular intervals to show silent films and now after an extensive refurbishment that has brought the theatre back to its original glory, there is the resurrection of a genuine silent movie theatre, Australia’s only silent theatre.

Every Thursday evening a regular dinner and silent screening entertains the public and the Majestic Theatre continues to be at the heart of Pomona’s community life.

Getting there:

The Majestic Theatre, 3 Factory Street, Pomona. Pomona is 135kms north of Brisbane and easily accessed by road.

By train:

Catch The Sunlander, Tilt Train or Spirit of the Outback to Cooroy Station. Pomona is located approximately 15 minutes from Cooroy Station. To book your rail adventure call Traveltrain Holidays on 1800 627 655.

Further information:

Regular silent screenings are on a Thursday evening, see monthly program for further events evenings

We went as a group twice for special occassions, staying overnight at the Pomona Pub. Some of us dressed in the 20's gear and we had an absolute ball. This is one not to miss.

I saw a regular movie there years ago(in winter), they had kero heaters and if you were lucky on of their cats would keep your lap warm . A great experience .
