Learn to surf at the Gold Coast

Get there by train Get there by road Accommodation

There’s no denying it, surfing is in. Just imagine the bragging rights when you return home having caught your first wave - standing up.

The Gold Coast boasts some of the world’s most respected surf schools and sought after swells, so grab an expert and introduce yourself to the thrill of the wave.

Learn to surf lessons are readily available up and down the coast from The Spit to Coolangatta and have been embraced by families, school children, corporate team builders and baby boomers, just wanting to have fun. Beginner lessons generally run for two hours, all equipment is supplied and coaches will first guide you through the basics on the sand, before heading to the water. But be warned. It’s addictive. Initially you will be excited just to stand up on your board in white water. Let the addiction take hold however and the words "surf’s up" will see you charge to the ocean in search of your next big barrel.

Getting there:

The Gold Coast is easily accessed by rail, road and air.

A great spot. Managed to stand up but to officially be surfing I think I might need to go back a few times yet. Heaps of fun.

As I live near the Barrier Reef with no surf this is a very appealing idea.

Nothing is more exhilerating than getting up on a surfboard and riding a wave. Kids learnt on the Gold Coast at an early age and surf now everyweekend!
