For train buffs and everyone else this is a must do. Go up on the train and down on skyrail. Loved the experience.

The Kuranda Scenic Railway is one of the world’s greatest scenic rail tours, attracting half a million passengers annually. Kuranda Scenic Railway’s 90 minute journey makes its way from the tropical north city of Cairns to the mountain village of Kuranda. At Kuranda, visitors can discover a variety of unique attractions including the bustling village markets, the internationally renowned Rainforestation, Bird World, the Koala Gardens Wildlife Park and the colourful Australian Butterfly Sanctuary.
The Kuranda Scenic Railway was constructed between 1882 and 1891 and is considered an engineering feat of tremendous magnitude. On board commentary reveals the trials and tribulations involved in constructing this phenomenal rail experience. Hundreds of men were employed to build the 15 hand-made tunnels and 37 bridges. Today these structures serve as a monument to the pioneers of Tropical North Queensland.

The Kuranda Scenic Railway journey is a magic experience through the spectacular rainforest and gorges. It is incredible the engineering and building of such a line in early days through rugged terrain. On our visit we took the train up, took the bus to the Rainforestation near Kuranda (a fantastic experience) and took the Skyrail back. My only complaint was that it wasn't long enough.

Spectacular when the Barron River is running high.

WoW what spectacular scenery awaits around every twist and turn that this train takes...truely magical especially when one realises that this railway was entirely hand buit over 100 years ago. Truely something special.

great experience but is extremely hot on the train - maybe need a couple of air-conditioned carriages for people who dont tolerate the heat well.

A gorgeous part of the world. Visit just after the wet season to get the most from training past the falls.
