Wonderful reward to senses and spirit, quiet paths to mature forests, clear lakes, ocean beach. Walked with good friends and family twice yet must-do again.

Take in Fraser Island’s stunning beauty over six to eight days on the 90km Great Walk starting at Dilli Village and ending at Happy Valley. Wind through towering rainforests, crystal-clear lakes, coloured sands and vast dunes, following the island's original inhabitants, the Butchulla people. Be confronted with an ever-changing landscape of subtropical rainforest, woodland, mangroves and coastal heathland. Visit iconic sites such as Lake McKenzie, Wanggoolba Creek, Lake Wabby and Central Station.
This walk can be completed all year round with spring being the best time for wildflowers. It can also be done in smaller segments, so if the family wants to join you choose a shorter stroll or a half or full day walk. For instance a walk from Central Station to Basin Lake is 5.6km (approximately 2.5hrs return) and visits a pretty window lake inhabited by freshwater turtles.
So pull on your shoes and get walking. You will never tire of the scenery.
Getting there:
Fraser Island is 300km north of Brisbane accessed by barge from Rainbow Beach or Hervey Bay.

Fraser Island is an amazing place. I heard stories of Lake Mackenzie and so many other places there, it just didn't seem real. After being there and experiencing some of what Fraser has to offer, I can say it is definitely a MUST DO.

I have been there and the drive there was well worth it and a top spot for a vacation.

I have flown over it by light plane, walked and drove on it, landed by small cabin cruiser on the incredible moon point with its whiter than white powder soft sand; and fought for the preservation of all it's unique wonders from sand miners and the timber industry, as a member of Frazer Island Defenders Organization.I am so glad I was one of those who recognized its' uniqueness in those days and was prepared to be part of a vocal minority to help save that unique beauty for the enjoyment of present and future generations!!

About 3 Easters ago we went with another family and walked part of the Fraser Island Great Walk. The highlight for me was camping at Lake McKenzie as when the tourist buses had left in the afternoon, we and the few other campers had the beautiful lake to ourselves. A tranquil evening swim in its pristine waters was just heaven!
