Great Artesian Spa

Get there by train Get there by road Accommodation

Here’s a chance to immerse your body in some healing mineralised artesian water said to be relaxing for the body and therapeutic for the soul. You can’t buy this in a bottle.

The Great Artesian Spa in Mitchell has been created to make you feel like you’re taking a dip in an outback billabong. Lower yourself into the naturally heated waters pumped deep from the Great Artesian Basin and feel the tension in your muscles begin to relax, and then slowly slip away. The second pool has been designed for those who prefer a cooler experience.

The Spa Complex conveniently joins the Mitchell Memorial Swimming Pool, so there’s a swimming experience here to keep the entire family happy. There is also the Healthbyte Internet Café, gift shop and Mitchell’s Visitor Information Centre located within the complex. So before leaving Mitchell, “take the waters”, just as the ancient Egyptians and Romans did over many centuries, as a therapeutic tradition.

Getting there:

2 Cambridge St, Mitchell. Mitchell is located 560km west of Brisbane and easily accessed by road and air.

By train:

Catch The Westlander to Charleville. Connect to the Great Artesian Spa from Charleville Station with a Nardoo Station or Stephanie Mills Gallery tour. To book your rail adventure call Traveltrain Holidays on 1800 627 655.

I loved visiting the spa when I lived in Mitchell a few years ago, a great way to relax and rejuvenate. They used to do a great meal there too!

We went there after a week of bushwalking and camping at Carnarvon Gorge.....Aaaaaah the bliss of relaxing in the warm soothing waters - we could have stayed for ever!

One of my favourite memories is sitting in the warm spa on a rainy afternoon in the outback and watching the steam rise from the water. So cozy!
