Gold Coast Great Walk

Get there by train Get there by road Accommodation

Walk along the rim of an ancient volcano, take in the stunning views from panoramic lookouts and share the forest with resident wildlife. These are just a few of the treats along the 54km Gold Coast Hinterland Great Walk, linking the species-rich Green Mountains (Lamington National Park) to the Springbrook Plateau, via Binna Burra and the scenic Numinbah Valley.

The walk can be done in either direction although it is most popular to commence from O’Reilly’s in the Green Mountains section of Lamington National Park, along the ‘Border Track’ towards Binna Burra. Over three days of moderate walking you will feel extremely privileged - you are visiting an area recognised as one of the world’s most outstanding and valuable places. Lamington and Springbrook National Parks are part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area, so take the time to feel the spirit of the landscape while discovering ancient rainforests, rushing streams and pounding waterfalls.

There are camping areas provided along the track or stay in nearby guest houses and B&Bs.

Getting there:

Green Mountains is located 110kms, 2hrs drive south of Brisbane. From Nerang follow the signs to Canungra and then to Lamington National Park.

Both Binna Burra and O'Reillys are amazing places on their own, well worth day trips, and to combine it with this walk would be terrific.

Iv'e been to parts of the walks but it would be great to do the whole lot in one. What an experience!! Love being out in the bush. Stand a while and take in the atmosphere and surroundings and see what arrives...birds, lizards, sometimes snakes...they just go on their way. Scrub turkeys, other shy animals....then continue walking.
