Glass House Mountains

Get there by train Get there by road Accommodation

You can be forgiven for thinking you have entered the Promised Land where lush green, fertile valleys grow tropical fruits of every colour and sweetness in perfectly straight, well-tended lines.

Rising dramatically from this land of milk and honey, the Glass House Mountains thrust spectacularly towards the clouds, a series of steep-sided volcanic plugs formed some 20million years ago.

The craggy volcanic peaks tower over the valleys below, offering impressive walking tracks to panoramic lookouts and majestic mountain summits. To match your walk with your abilities all tracks are graded from easy to challenging. Tackle Mount Ngungun for instance on a 2.2km steep round trip and be rewarded with views to all four major mountain peaks. The easy 800m return on the Glass House Mountains lookout track presents sweeping views to Caloundra, Maroochydore, Brisbane and Moreton Island. Conditions are also perfect for rock climbing, abseiling and mountain biking.

Visitors can stay in the area at the Glass House Mountains township, 20 minutes from Caboolture or 30 minutes from Caloundra.

Getting there:

With beerwah closed and coonowrin closed, that really only leaves tibrogargan of the 'premier' glasshouses (maybe add ngungun to that list, maybe). So wouldn't there be more truth in advertising if Maleny QPWS called it the 'glasshouse mountain'?

Glass house mountains is a lovely place to visit, we waked to the top of wild horse mountain, just off the Bruce hwy where there is an excellent view of all the mountains, also the walks around the mountains themselves are wonderful. Adam, Brisbane

For new years in 2005 we climbed one of them to watch the sun rise, we could see the ocean, distant ships on the horizon. I'll do it again when I get fit:)

Close to the city but the scenery is out of this world, especially the views from the mountains.
