My husband and I hired a small houseboat for the night which was great as you could fish anytime. We didnt catch any barrumundi but it was fun.

Have you ever dreamt of having your picture taken with a massive barramundi? You know the shot...the sun is setting over the water and you’re proud and radiant face is glowing. With fishing rod suspended in your mouth, you hold up your catch, a 20kg plus fish so big, you can’t even fit the tail in shot.
Amidst stunning scenery on Lake Awoonga near Benaraby, dreams do come true. Meandering through the upper reaches of the fertile Boyne Valley and surrounded by the imposing cliffs of Mount Castletower, over 300,000 fish are released into the lake each year, providing some of the best fresh water fishing in Queensland.
The barra bite all year round on Lake Awoonga and to get the best out of your day, join a guided fishing charter with an experienced local who will give you tips on fishing and all of the top spots.

We keep passing the turnoff to Awoonga but one day we will take the time to go there. We have family who go there to camp regularly. The photos are good and give a good picture of what we have been missing in the past!!!
