Dive the Great Barrier Reef

Get there by train Get there by road Accommodation

Within the diving fraternity, Queensland has a reputation as one of the world’s most exotic destinations from top to bottom. With the Great Barrier Reef spanning more than 2000km, you can step off-shore from any one of Queensland’s coastal townships and plunge into a living, breathing showcase. It is only fitting that it should be listed as one of the world’s seven natural wonders.

With so many reefs to choose from it is hard to decide which one to dive. It therefore makes sense, if you have the time, to jump on a live-aboard vessel for a more extensive adventure on the reef. Day dives are just as exciting but they tend to be over all too soon.

Wall diving, great swim-throughs and magnificent coral gardens await. Not to mention the large pelagic fish, painted lobsters, nudibranchs, huge gorgonian fans and beautiful soft corals to name a few. Eyeball huge potato cod, swim with sharks and rays. Whatever you have dreamt about or seen on an underwater documentary, it’s all here just waiting for you to dive down and see for yourself.

Getting there:

The Great Barrier Reef can be easily accessed from the Queensland coast.

By train:

Combine your rail journey with one of Traveltrain's Whitsunday holiday packages to include a Great Barrier Reef dive adventure. You can take advantage of these great packages when travelling to North Queensland onboard The Sunlander or Tilt Train. To book your rail adventure call Traveltrain Holidays on 1800 627 655.

With nature changing so suddenly its only a matter of time before the reef will be no more...even more the reason to take the time to get up and see its beauty!

The only way to experience one of the natural wonders of the world right here in Queensland. Experience a whole new world without even leaving the state.

Diving or snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef is a wonderful experience. Colorful fish swimming all around you, beautiful corals of different sizes and shapes, and sometimes if you are lucky you may also encounter a turtle swimming gracefully a few meters from you. Absolutely not to be missed!
