Colourful waterlilies and beautiful gardens surround you as you stroll along the lagoon and wooden walkways of Bundaberg’s Botanic Gardens. This peaceful setting attracts over 100 species of bird and provides a quiet, tranquil spot for a relaxing cup of coffee or longer lunch. On Sunday’s the children can enjoy a ride on the steam-powered Australian Sugar Cane Railway.
Home to several comprehensive museums, the prize rose in this garden is Hinkler House. Bert Hinkler, the first aviator to fly solo from England to Australia in 1928 is Bundaberg’s most famous son. His English home was transported, brick by brick, from Southampton, England, back to Bundaberg in 1983 and now stands proudly overlooking the lagoons where as a boy he sat and studied the ibis in flight. Now an aviation museum you can visit daily from 10am-4pm.
