Brisbane River Adventures

Get there by train Get there by road Accommodation

If you think Brisbane is just another city overflowing with excellent shopping, superb restaurants and fabulous cultural experiences, think again - get down to the river and experience Brisbane from a different angle. At Riverlife Adventure Centre you can see the city from the rocks, from the water, or on wheels.

Face your fears abseiling down Kangaroo Point’s weathered walls or crawling up them, rock by rock. From a dangling position you will see the city from a new perspective.

Imagine cutting through the darkness on your kayak and gliding silently under the Story Bridge. Whether you are an experienced paddler or it’s your first time on the water, you will be captivated by the city’s charm as the high rise reflections dance playfully in your wake.

So you’re not a cliff-hanger and would prefer to keep your feet firmly on the shore? Start at the beautiful City Botanic Gardens and follow the river north to connect to the floating RiverWalk, over 20km of walking paths along the beautiful Brisbane River. To increase the pace, break out your wheels or hire them (bicycles, rollerblades and kick bikes) from Riverlife Adventure Centre.

Wining and dining on the water is also popular with cruises such as the Kookaburra River Queen offering buffet lunch and dinner cruises, live entertainment, and everchanging views.

Riverlife Adventure Centre: access via the Kangaroo Point steps (off River Terrace) or catch CityCat to the Thornton St Ferry Terminal then follow the signs.

The best value tourist attraction in Brisbane is the City Cat Ferry trip from Southbank. My "very cool" nephew and niece from Melbourne stood at the front of the ferry for the whole trip while I regaled them with tales of the sights along the river. A bonding experience for all of us. It's so good for us locals to be able to have such a showcase tour and to be able to display our own history eg uni drinking at the Brekky Creek, Regatta etc.

The Brisbane River is a great place to see Brisbane in a relaxed way by taking a ride on one of the many boats or the City Cats

We had a fantastic wedding on the Kookaburra River Queens from Eagle St. Pier. Excellent food, service and the boats are looking good these days due to the new owners.

You MUST take a cruise aboard Brisbane icons the Kookaburra River Queens. We took a scenic dinner cruise and there is no better way to see the river than from au authentic paddlewheeler.

A great family trip starts at New Farm park to smell the roses and then catch the citycat to southbank pool, maybe a visit to the art gallery - riding the citycat back to New Farm at dusk with all the city lights coming on is quite a treat.
