Southbank is one of the more relaxing areas of brisbane, plenty of fancy restraunts, markets on the weekends, and an artificial beach to keep everyone cool on those hot summer days.

Amid a trendy atmosphere of alfresco restaurants and cafes and surrounded by all things arty and cultural - there lies a beach. Soft white sand moulds into a crystal clear lagoon, pebbled creeks gurgle and palm trees and exotic plants cast their shadows over South Bank Parkland’s scenic playground.
Overlooking Brisbane’s CBD, man-made Streets Beach at South Bank is the perfect place to unwind and catch your breath in the midst of busy city life.
Refreshed and renewed from your swim, you can wander through the colourful canopy of bougainvillea and over 17 hectares of lush lawns and gardens that make up The Parklands. On a weekend enjoy a flamboyant marketplace where quirky collections of art, jewellery, gifts, homeware and designer fashions are on display. The Lifestyle Market also opens under the moonlight on Friday nights.
For the runners among you, the Brisbane River Run starts and ends at South Bank with three colour-coded run/walk courses following the river and taking in the Goodwill Bridge, Story Bridge and Kangaroo Point cliffs.
Getting there:
South Bank is located in the heart of Brisbane with frequent train, bus and ferry connections.

When my inlaws visited from overseas we took them for a BBQ at South Bank and they loved it. South Bank has a really good atmosphere about it.

We've taken the kids to Southbank almost every day for the past two weeks to cool down at Aquativity. We always notice how many different nationalities are enjoying this free public place, and it makes me especially proud to be an Aussie on Australia Day in such a beautiful environment with Brisbane city as a backdrop.
