What a fantastic weekend experience :)

It’s not just the authentic camp oven food that draws such a crowd to Millmerran for the bi-annual Australian Camp Oven Festival; it’s the entire weekend packed with activities for the whole family to enjoy. And what family doesn’t want to bring a little Australian Heritage to their children in a fun and active way?
The scene is set with lots of hay bales, saddles, cartwheels and camp ovens when the kids are called to join in a damper throwing and billy boiling competition. The Mailbox Muster brings the craziest and most talented creations of mailboxes that you are ever likely to see, but it’s the cooking competition that sets off the most steam.
Enter as an individual or part of a team and whip up some great tucker in sections such as Traditional Bush Smoko, Pudding Baked Mud Lizard or Bush Dinner (roast leg of lamb with vegetables and spotted dog custard).
While the pots are simmering, there’s entertainment such as the horse whisperer, sheep shearing competitions and live country music.
It’s the perfect way to celebrate your bush heritage.
Getting there:
Millmerran Showgrounds, Cecil Plains Road. Millmerran is located 200km west of Brisbane.

Just what I need to learn about the camp ovens etc. I'll put it on my list of must do's.

I think I'd be good at the damper throwing. I'll start practising now.

My experience of Milmerran Camp Oven Cooking Festival was in the damper-cooking class on Day 1 of the Festival last year. It was a fantastic and fun-filled experience; first learning how to use my camp oven and actually making and cooking the damper, and then having the opportunity to wander around obtaining tips from other participants who were learning how to cook stews and roasts in their camp ovens! Our teachers and the other students were such a friendly bunch of people, and I think all of us were very happy with our camp oven culinary efforts!

Wonderful to see the spirit and resilience of a small town in putting on such a successful event year after year. It's a great event and well worth a visit! I hope it continues to get bigger and better each year.

This place is good as it sounds. Put aside the weekend when it's on and go see.
