My father cut cane in the Burdekin for many years in the 1940's. I have a lot of respect for the old time cane cutters. a must do.

Being a Burdekin resident now, surrounded by canefields doesn't dimminish the enjoyment of this unique and fun event. Locals and lucky visitors alike are reminded of just how back-breaking earning an honest living could be in the not so distant past. One leaves with a mountain of respect for the "cutters" and indeed their families. Hard not to feel grateful for "progress".

History of the cane-cutters and early industry should never be lost. We should be so proud of our early pioneers.
