Immerse yourself in the beauty of the Daintree Rainforest

Get there by train Get there by road Accommodation

Imagine being in the presence of something that is 135 million years old, not just in its presence, but walking through it, exploring its unique heart.

As you step softly through the Daintree Rainforest and breathe in its silent beauty, you will appreciate the enormity of its existence and soon realise you have entered a living, breathing museum.

Within the tangle of glossy foliage covering 1200 square kilometres north of Cairns, over 430 species of bird make this their home, in fact it is home to the largest range of plants and animals on earth – some species of which are found nowhere else in the world.

Sit amid the foliage of Mossman Gorge and listen to the gurgle of water flowing over smooth round boulders on its journey through this ancient land.

Take pleasure in the hiking trails, scenic lookouts, camping sites, swimming holes and deserted golden sand beaches, where calm blue waters lap the shoreline of the rainforest.

Hold the experience close to you. It’s not every day that you get to walk where the rainforest meets the reef.

Getting there:

The Daintree Rainforest starts approximately two hours north of Cairns.

By train:

Catch The Sunlander or Tilt Train to Cairns. Hire a car and drive 2 hours north to the Daintree Rainforest. Alternatively you may choose to take your car on holiday with you when travelling to Cairns onboard The Sunlander using Motorail. To book your rail adventure call Traveltrain Holidays on 1800 627 655.

Further information:

Many tour operators operate out of Cairns and Port Douglas into the Daintree Rainforest. The best time of year to travel is the dry season from April to October.

I lived in Cape Tribulation for 2 and a half years and loved every minute of it. You feel so special to be there.

Just amazing but even better with a small group and local tour guide in a 4WD to make the most of it. There are so many things you would miss if someone didn't point them out to you. And also to be in rainforest one minute then next to the reef the next - very cool!
